Little Bee Cookies
These are very simple sable cookies cutesyed up with some royal icing and almond slices. This recipe generated 24 bees and three flours. The ratio of bees and flowers can be adjusted.
1 stick(8oz) unsalted room temperature butter
1/4 cup of sugar
2 tbs powdered sugar
pinch of sea salt
1 large egg yolk
1/2 tsp almond extract (optional)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
One drop of yellow food coloring
2oz of sliced almonds for the wings
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 tbs of room temp water
black and red food coloring
Cream together your butter, salt, and sugars until smooth. Then beat in the egg yolk and vanilla and almond extracts and the yellow food coloring.
Scrap the side of the bowl and add in the flour. Mix just enough to combine
Roll out the dough 1/4 in thick and refrigerate for one hour or freeze for half an hour
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
Cut the cookies with a 1-2 in cookie cutter. I used a cooking oil cap. To make the flowers combine five of the circle's edges into a five-petal flower shape and use a bit of excess dough to fill in the center.
Bake for 18-20 minutes until brown around the edges
While you let the cookies cool completely combine the powdered sugar and water and then divide between two bowls. in one bowl add a very very small drop of red food coloring to one bowl and two full drops of black dye to the other bowl.
Once the cookies are completely cool add two small drops of frosting to the bottom of the cookie and affix two almond slices as wings and let it dry for about ten minutes. You can reference my TikTok if you have trouble with this step.
Then add two horizontal lines of black to the center of the circles and add a little face. You can add two little blush circles with the pink if your feeling that.
For the flowers, you can just frost the petals with the rest of the pink frosting.
Let the frosting dry for at least two hours before serving. I didn't and you can see the lil drips off of the flower :'(
